PF-ONE Proposal

Comparison with Traditional Capacitor Banks

Capacitor Banks are a popular choice for utilities due to their familiarity and seemingly low cost, but they are far from optimal. Capacitor Banks must be sized to the loads they compensate, and they can only compensate for lagging PF loads. The control algorithm for capacitor banks is "dead band" control, which is never optimal and has an effectiveness of 50% at best. Capacitor Banks represent significant engineering challenges and have high installation and maintenance costs. PF-ONE, on the other hand, corrects VARs (leading and lagging), harmonics, and load imbalance with high-resolution current injection at over 98% efficiency.
